Sayaka Tiessen has been a registered physiotherapist in Ontario since 2011. She graduated from the University of Toronto and has subsequently worked both in the hospital setting and in private practice. This has given her a broad range of experience - from knee and hip replacements, high level athletes, and weekend warriors - cyclists, runners, lifters, and rock climbers to name a few. Through it all, she constantly demonstrates compassion and individual attention to each of her patients.

She moved to Kitchener-Waterloo in 2018 and is excited to continue growing her practice in her new stomping grounds. She brings with her a wealth of skills such as acupuncture and advanced manual therapy. Her goal is to empower her patients by giving them the knowledge they need about their injury, and encouraging self-management.

Sayaka’s physiotherapy philosophy is to treat the individual, not the injury. Everybody and every body is different, requiring different approaches.

Being an avid and successful local amateur triathlete, Sayaka’s area of special interest is working with runners of all skill levels. She has learned extensively about running injury prevention and management from some leading experts in the field and is always seeking to expand her knowledge base on running but also rehabilitation best-practices.

When she is not working or training, you can find Sayaka rock climbing at Grand River Rocks, helping out with the new Kitchener-Waterloo Triathlon Club, or carefully cultivating her baking and cooking skills.
